Success Spotlight with Mike Yudin: Strength and Conditioning Coach and Owner of Team Yudin Training How do you define success? It's funny. Over the years my definition of success has changed. When I was a kid I thought success meant having the most money (being a millionaire) or having the most material things (cars,houses,etc.). Now for me, I don't define success like that. I don't need a million dollars. I view my success through the success my clients have. For example, I have different clients, ranging from elementary school kids to adults. Some are here to get bigger, faster, stronger for athletics and others are here to become more fit and to lose weight so they can live a longer more enjoyable life. If I can help people reach their goals and be happy then I consider myself successful because I have made an impact in a positive way. When did you realize you wanted to dedicate your life to becoming a Personal Trainer and Strength Coach? You know working out wasn't a big thing when I was in high school. So it wasn't until I was in college that I got into it. I started to enjoy working out and then people had asked to work out with me. So right after college I became a trainer. I grew up playing sports my whole life so I really wanted to work with athletes. And the rest is pretty much history. You got married about a year and a half ago. How has your life and business changed for the better since marrying your wife? Great question. I really got lucky marrying such a supportive wife. She really is amazing! It's not as easy as people would think to be married to someone who "makes their own schedule." There are days when I'm up at 5am training and there are days that I'm working until 12am (if you don't believe me you can ask my boy from USC he can't workout until late haha). It gets hard sometimes to make time for each other when I have clients wanting to better themselves. I don't feel like I can turn someone away who is trying to get better. Then, when my clients have games I try to make as many as I can to support them because I know how much hard work and dedication they have put in. Through all the early mornings and late nights she still supports me 100% and I think that has really helped me grow as a person which then helps my business. What is your biggest failure and how have you grown from it? Honestly this is probably the hardest question to answer. It's a tough question because if I have to be honest, I think my biggest failure was myself when I was younger. I just didn't work hard enough. I thought I had everything figured out like most kids do and I didn't put the time and effort in that needed to be there to be the best. I just tried to get by on my talent alone (which worked for a while) but at the end of the day when your not putting 100% effort behind everything other people will pass you. Now I feel I have grown from it by always working hard to better myself as an adult and by the relationships I have made with my clients to get them to work hard for both me and themselves so they can achieve their goals. I wish when I was younger I had someone like that to push me the right way. What is the ultimate goal for Team Yudin Training? The ultimate goal for Team Yudin Training is to help people reach their goals. Doesn't matter if they are an athlete, a business man/woman, a stay at home mom/dad, or just a kid looking to get into shape. If I can help someone become a better athlete, live a better day to day life, give someone more confidence, or just help someone become a happier / healthier person than I have done my job and achieved my goal. What is the best piece of advice you have ever received? I have received great advice from two places. My Dad always told me to always work harder than everyone else. And my mentor/friend (Robert Dos Remedios) always told me if he can get better than so can I. He pushed me to always go to conferences, read books, get dvds, etc. Coach Dos is one of the top Strength & Conditioning Coaches in the WORLD! And if tells you how to get better than you listen. I owe a lot of my success to him. It's so important i feel to have a great mentor. Not someone who just tells you what to do but genuinely cares about you.
