Month #9 is here! We’ve eclipsed the $2,000 mark and have no plans to slow down now. This month is a very special month for me in this journey, arguably the most important and personal, so we will be raising money for PSC Partners for a Cure. PSC stands for Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis, but I’ll get into that in a bit. Before we dive in, let’s look back at our first 8 months:
As always, thank you in advance to everyone who’s participated in the Giving Challenge by sharing my posts, donating money, or just believing in the mission of helping others and spreading the good word. As I mentioned September is extremely personal for me as this month is 100% dedicated to my mom, the strongest and most amazing woman I have ever met in my life. Her birthday is in September, so instead of making just one day about her, I’m making the whole month about her. She deserves to be celebrated everyday! 🙂 You would never think this by your interactions with her or by looking at her that she is going through a long and exhausting battle with PSC (and Ulcerative Colitis). Primary sclerosing choloangitis (PSC), is a rare liver disease that damages the bile ducts inside and outside the liver. Unfortunately, currently the only definitive treatment at this time is a liver transplant. It’s not fun and it’s been hard on our family. It’s been very hard on me, and even though I don’t talk about this publicly, there isn’t a day that goes by when I don’t think about her and what she’s going through. Even with PSC, my mom is a superstar. One of the things I respect most about my mom is no matter how she is feeling, she always makes you feel like the most important person in the room. She is always so thoughtful of others asking people insightful questions and getting people to open up to her. I love my mom so much and to see her suffering is one of the hardest things in the world for me, so this month we are raising money to help find a cure for PSC. So I ask you all for the month of September to spread the word to help my mom, our family, and others fight the battle against PSC. You can donate here. What is the PSC Partners for a Cure? Founded in 2005, PSC Partners Seeking a Cure is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing education and support to primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) patients, families and caregivers and to raising funds to research causes, treatments and cures for this rare disease. Our programs give support to patients, caregivers, families and friends, educate patients and the medical community about PSC and encourage ground-breaking research in the search for a cure. Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) is a rare liver disease that damages the bile ducts inside and outside the liver. With PSC, bile ducts are inflamed, and the inflammation leads to scarring and narrowing of the affected ducts. Eventually, blockages may occur. As the scarring blocks more and more ducts, bile becomes trapped in the liver. This damages the liver and can result in fibrosis and cirrhosis of the liver and liver failure. Patients may eventually require a liver transplant.
