Can Unloading the Dishwasher Really Bring Us More Joy?

I don’t know exactly why but I get a thrill of unloading the dishwasher. Before you think I’m a nut or anything, I am very aware that this is a unique or as some would say, a weird thing to enjoy doing.

It’s not something I love doing every single time, but more often than not I get a joy out of unloading the dishwasher.

Maybe it’s similar to the feeling you get when you make your bed in the morning. Personally, I don’t get a huge rush from making my bed in the morning like everyone says, but I think that’s ok.

Not everything works for everyone and it’s important to figure out what works for you.
For me, unloading the dishwasher is something that excites me. I feel a great sense of accomplishment when I have clean utensils to eat off of. I feel great that everything is clean and ready to go.

I also like the idea of organizing everything and creating a cleaner environment.

I’m one of those people that is always thinking about the little things and I start to change my meal plans if we’re running low on certain silverware. For example, if I’m low on bowls, I might not make cereal for a few days. Or, if I’m running low on silverware I might pass on making my morning hot water with honey or my Liquid IV since I think I need to save it for other things. So, with that in mind, having a fresh batch of clean utensils is refreshing to me.

I didn’t always enjoy unloading the dishwasher but as I’ve become an adult and experienced living away from home for a few years now, this is something I’ve grown to enjoy. When I was younger, I saw this as a chore. Now, I see this as a chance to start fresh.

It all comes down to our mindset about how we view certain things. It’s about our perspective and what we choose to do with the information and viewpoint we have. As a child, this was a chore that was boring. Now, it’s a great task to give me a break in my day and at the same time clean up my kitchen. It’s a chance to get ready for my next meal which is always an exciting time.

I mean… who doesn’t like to eat?

I think we all have corky things about us that we enjoy doing or that make us feel good. Whatever the reasons are, we shouldn't hide from the things that we enjoy. As a matter of fact, I think we should not feel guilty about doing or consuming the things that bring us joy.

Elevate in Action:
  1. Pick one thing in your life that you can look at with a different perspective.
  2. Think about one of the things that makes you YOUnique. Embrace it!
