Two months down and this journey continues to amaze me. From learning some incredible dance moves to meeting new people, this month was filled with new experiences.
My 12 Month Journey is an experiment in which I do a different activity every month for the entire year of 2016 with a goal of inspiring people to break out of their comfort zone and pursue something they’ve always wanted to try.
Watch my Final Challenge
For the month of February, I worked with Brittany Glodean who is a dancer and recording artist. She is not only a gifted performer who is going to be a huge star, but she is a compassionate and awesome teacher. When I first started, I thought she was going to laugh at me because I wasn’t very good. Instead, she didn’t laugh and kept encouraging me and working with me on all of our moves. I can’t thank her enough for coaching me through this month and giving me some sweet dance moves to show off next time I am at a bar mitzvah.
We broke down this month into three segments: two 15-second videos and one longer dance routine to Drake and Future’s Jumpman.
The first video was the Hit the Quan Challenge and can be seen here.
The second video was the Bet You Can’t Do It Like Me Challenge and can be seen here.
For each of these videos Brittany would show me the routine and then we would work on it and perfect our performances. Both times when she showed me the routines, I thought she was crazy for thinking that I would be able to do these moves and not look like a complete rookie. Luckily for me, she was a great teacher who helped me each step of the way. I also realized that when you commit to something and forget about what others might think, you can achieve more than you originally thought you could.
For our final challenge we wanted to test my skills and do a longer routine. The reason for this was because a longer performance would test my ability to remember the routine (very challenging) as well as incorporate new moves.
Final Challenge Video can be seen here and it is straight fire!
Month two was incredible and because of the support and feedback, we have decided to host a dance class at L.Y.T.E Dance Studio for people interested in coming out and seeing what all the hype is about. We will be finalizing the date for sometime in March, so be on the lookout for an invitation.
