September. What a month! This month was filled with amazing experiences and exciting new opportunities. September was also the month of my mom’s birthday which was very special. Have I ever mentioned how great of a woman she is? Well, she’s the best. Anyways, this month’s activity was healthy-ish eating.
There are a couple of reasons I chose to do healthy-ish eating this month and they are:
The goal was to eat healthier than normal. Now, this doesn’t mean that I was going to go from eating decently to extremely healthy. It means that I was going to take a small step in the direction of eating healthier. I aimed to make small changes in my diet that would lead to bigger and more long-term changes. Some of these changes included:
Not only was I able to do this, but I realized how much better my body felt after some of these changes. It is truly amazing at what you can accomplish and achieve when you take small actions. I’ve always heard small actions lead to big results and while I am still not eating a perfectly healthy diet, I feel better and I know that I can do it.
Let me just take a second to share how hard not eating Taco Bell was. As a lover of the Cheesy Gordita Crunch it pained me not to have one in over a month. To put it into perspective, I ate Taco Bell almost every week in college even if it was just one item and since then I’ve definitely eaten it less. Taco Bell for me is like pizza or sushi for most of you. Bottomline, I love Taco Bell and I didn't eat it for over a month.
All in all, this month tested me. It forced me to think twice about eating the box of Oreos or the extra few breadsticks. I think that this month’s activity has changed the way I eat. With that said, I definitely see a Taco Bell run in the near future, but at the same time I definitely see myself eliminating unnecessary food items for the foreseeable future. As long as I pay attention to what I am eating and make the conscious effort to choose the healthier option, I think my diet will be great and I will continue to feel wonderful!
I encourage all of you to make one small change in your life for the next week or month. It can be a change in your diet, your workout, your mindset, or whatever you want as long as you take action. All you have to do is decide to make a small change, focus on that change and enjoy the results that change can bring!
