Just like that March is over. It’s crazy how quickly time flies when you are busy doing what you love. While I spent a lot of this month marketing my book, I also kept pretty busy with the Lakers as we had 13 home games and multiple community events. I mention that because the season is coming to a close and Kobe is on his way to retirement which sets the stage for new beginnings in the NBA. It also sets the stage for the release of my book which is set to hit markets on May 1st. Even more so it is the reason for this second update about book marketing.
Book marketing has taught me a lot about myself and how hard it actually is to create a book. When I tell people I wrote a book, a lot of people think that I wrote a little eBook. When I explain that this is a real book that each of you can buy on Amazon (I highly recommend you do), people change their expressions and get excited! That is the reaction I love. I wrote this book to share knowledge and help people on their journey and this is what I’ve done to spread the word.
For the second half of the month, I continued focusing on my launch team and creating awareness. The launch team has been formed and everyone on the team is extremely supportive and willing to help. Everyone on the team has received an early copy of the book. I’ve even had one person tell me how she wished she read my book when she was still in school and how she is going to use some of the principles and strategies taught in the book for her next job. That is the type of feedback I love to hear and I am excited to connect with more teammates as they read through the book.
In terms of raising awareness, I am working on securing more interviews whether it is on the radio, TV, or written. I sent emails to every major publication including Entrepreneur, Forbes, Fast Company, Time, Life Hack and more to try and spread the word about my book and the knowledge that the book entails. While I don’t have anything set in stone with those outlets, I secured several speaking engagements at CSUN Alpha Phi, USC, Valencia High School, Front Office Sports, SCV TV and a few others.
Besides working on securing interviews, I created a huge excel document to prepare for the launch. While big interviews and articles are awesome, I really want to focus on my personal relationships and leveraging my network to help increase early sales. I believe that a lot of the success of this book will be through word of mouth and there’s no better way to get people talking about the book than going to the source and talking with them one on one.
As I wrap this post up, I am still wrapping my head around the fact that I wrote a book that could help thousands of people and help add value to their life.
